IMAGE GUIDED RADIATION THERAPY (IGRT)

What is Image Guided Radiation Therapy?

Patient on Synergy IGRT treatment unit    3D Imaging for precise targeting Treatment is carefully planned on a sophisticated computer
IGRT shows your radiation oncologist exactly where a tumor is and if it has moved prior to each treatment with either Three Dimensional Conformal or Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (3DCRT or IMRT). The radiation beam can then be adjusted based on the position of the target and critical organs while the patient is in the treatment position.

IGRT precisely targets cancers better than was traditionally possible, so target dose can be increased and side effects reduced for better treatment outcome.

  • Images at the time of treatment and in the treatment position
  • Identifies session to session movement and changes to tumors and organs
  • Adapts treatment beams for any organ motion
